Until now it has been all about
* What is F.F.C.S?
* How it is effectively implied in V.I.T?
* What are its glitches?
* How to get yourself a smart and efficient
timetable in the system?
Well that maybe quite enough but one thing that is still left out is the
answer to the question "Why F.F.C.S?",,, I mean - why the change ?... What was wrong
with our old and conventional system?
Before I give the answers let me tell you that when I searched for the
synonyms of the word "traditional", I came across many words: old,
legendary, historical, handed down, customary, conventional, long-standing,
established, correct, proper, etc. All these words (except the last two,
perhaps!) could define our present system. Our present educational system is
much like a Nazi system....in which there are a predefined steps to follow
making it totally monotonous or may I say boring, but the most important point
which has been missing in it which ultimately led to the change is the
inability of the current system to inculcate a sense of responsibility in
students. I know it do sounds weird but it totally makes sense. Present day
students like to make decisions on their own and plan their future by
themselves. Now if you go out and ask a student (not from VIT)..."which
course are you planning to take in your next semester and why", he will be
like "What!" It’s obvious when
you are not allowed to choose what to do you simply don't care to think what to
do next. The one who is responsible here to decide and implement the order and
choice of courses is the university. Just as Atlas bore the earth and the
heavens on his back, the university here bears the burden on its shoulders and
we end up merely reacting to the given directions. So a change is needed, even
the dictionary suggests it.
On the other side FFCS is a system which focuses on the interests of a
student regarding choosing their career oriented subjects in each semester. It
offers a student the subjects which he/she wants to pursue in the future. It
gives an edge over others by excelling in what you desire to be in future and
hence it is a way better than following the same dull algorithm to pass college.
Now talking about the glitches as mentioned
before are many but the major ones are:
* First come first serve -- If you have the registrations late, hardly
any seats are available in the slot preferred by you for that subject.
* Unknown teachers -- How to find out which
teacher is better on the day of registrations?
The best solution suggested could be to
overcome the less faculty to student ratio, since the ratio of faculty to student is very less ,after every FFCS each student bring forth his/her own problem
of either not getting their subjects or the faculty they penchant. To overcome
the less “ faculties to student” ratio,
the management should try to increase not only the number of slots but also the
no. of seats under a faculty. But for the second problem there is no so
straight forward and simple answer .......in V.I.T. we sort that out with the help of our seniors
and anti-ragging environment here makes it a cakewalk.
Finally when it comes to
conclusion, FFCS may not be as flexible as it sounds but from the above I
believe it’s quite clear that it's much better than the conventional one. It’s
a new innovation in the education system and it needs modifications. Yeah....it’s
not perfect but it’s the better.....and in this world rotating on its tilted
axis nothing can be perfect but better.
